SUMMARY:ACA L4-Open Water Coastal Kayak Skills Assessment
DESCRIPTION:The ACA Instructor Certification program polishes the paddling and teaching skills of already competent paddlers aspiring to become instructors or trip leaders. This course is a prerequisite for ACA L-4 Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor candidates and assesses the participants’ demonstration of technical competency\, leadership\, and overall skills. It emphasizes safety\, efficiency\, self-reliance\, and the ability to support others.   This is an assessment to be recognized for L4 paddling skills and open to all\, whether an understanding and recognition of L4 skills alone\, or a paddler looking to progress to attain the L4 Instructor award as their next goal.

DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our second year! \n@ Wekiwa Springs State Park\nWe’re going to have a lot of fun.  SUP camaraderie\, paddling trips\, classes\, Instructor Certification opportunities\, and more. \nThe weather is going to be great.  The average daily high is 74 degrees and low of 53 during February. \nWekiwa is a 2nd magnitude spring that is 72-74 degrees crystal clear water year round.  It feeds a beautiful basin/pond that is the headwaters to the Wekiva River.  Rock Springs run is another spring fed tributary that joins the Wekiva river about a mile downstream.  We’ll be staying in a private camp within the 7\,000 acres of Wekiva Springs State park with cabins\, a rec hall\, kitchen\, dining area\, fire pits\, outdoor classrooms\, etc.

DESCRIPTION:Where:  Seabrook Island\, S.C – St Christopher Camp & Conference Center \nWhen:  Veterans Day weekend November 9-11\, 2019 \nTrainers:  Ashley Brown and Jeff Atkins \nDetails:  Check-in Friday Nov. 8\, 2019 after 3pm | Check-out by 10am Monday Nov. 11\, 2019 (arrangements can be made to stay additional nights if rooms are available) \n\nCONCEPT: 2 ½ days of Training\, Touring & Fun (before the snow flies) Camp St. Christopher is on Seabrook Island and is a secluded quiet summer camp property. Lodging includes Air-conditioned rooms\, warm showers\, and breakfasts. Due to the close proximity to the ocean\, we will have easy evening walks on the beach. A conference room provides us a great group meeting space for class and social activities. Dolphins strand feed along the banks and bioluminescence provides for a magical nighttime experience. There is no light pollution\, so it is a perfect spot for star gazing! We are a short drive to some local restaurants and can enjoy an evening campfire near the dunes. \n\nA Sample Plan – Understanding that we will modify the plan considering weather\, skill and interest.Saturday – Teach and Trek Paddle to Botany Bay. We will paddle in the Edisto River and the small creek behind Botany Bay. Review currents and tides. Do some on the go navigation\, and get used to some small waves. We will plan to practice some rescues.Sunday – We will cross over to Deveaux Banks and try to circumnavigate it! There might be breaking waves and surfable conditions. This will be the rough water day to try new things and push your boundaries.Monday – Exhausted but still excited\, we will take this half day to surf\, or relax and sight sea (Sea what I did there?) \nWho should come:While this isn’t designed for people who are brand new to kayaking\, you do not need to be an expert or an ocean paddler. The North Edisto Inlet provides multiple venues to include ocean surf\, bouncy waves\, river crossings\, spectacular marsh views\, and access to the undeveloped beaches of Botany Bay. Therefore paddlers can enjoy the conditions that suits them best. We will be launching into the North Edisto River near the Inlet.
